Owk Waterfalls, located 6 kilometres from Owk village, 10 kilometres from Belum Caves, 34 kilometres from Yaganti, 56 kilometres from Jammalamadugu, and 70 kilometres from Gandikota, is an earthen dam originally built over the Paleru River in Owk in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the most prominent tourist attractions in Gandikota.
Owk Reservoir, built in 1946, is a balanced reservoir made up of three smaller dams: Paleru, Gollaleru, and Thimmaraju Cheruvu. Previously, the Paleru and Thimmaraju earth dams served as reservoirs for the Owk village ayacuts of around 600 and 2000 acres, respectively. These tanks were turned into Owk Reservoir by increasing the dam to a height of 220 feet.
The reservoir now has an interior area of more than 1000 acres and serves as the primary source of irrigation in the Rayalaseema region, as well as providing drinking water to local villages and cities. In order to attract tourists, AP Tourism has established a boat club in the backwaters of Owk Reservoir. Tourists may participate in a variety of water sports activities such as cruise boats, speed boats, and so on. In the dam’s catchment area, there are two water falls: Gollaleru and Paleru.
There are many tourist spots near Owk waterfalls. One of the most famous places is Belum Caves.
