Kamal Haasan says: I crossed party lines and came here to participation in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra

On December 24, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan spoke at the platform of the Bharat Jodo Yatra at the Red Fort in New Delhi.

Kamal Haasan was accompanied by MNM functionaries, who were invited to attend by the party’s president in a video message on Friday, emphasising that the march is for the nation and transcends political parties.

Kamal Haasan, the actor-turned-politician and head of the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), attended the Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in New Delhi on Saturday.

“Many people asked me why I’m here,” Kamal Haasan stated during a speech at the Red Fort. As an Indian, I’m here. My father was a member of Congress. I’ve had numerous views and even had my own political party, but when it comes to the nation, all party boundaries must merge. I reached here after crossing the border.”

Haasan was accompanied by MNM functionaries, who were urged to attend by the party’s president in a video message on Friday, who stated that the march is for the nation and transcends political parties. Previously, the MNM president stated that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote to him, urging him to participate in the Bharat Jodo Yatra not as a political party leader, but as a fellow citizen.

The choice of Haasan to join Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra suggests that the ruling DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, which includes the Congress, may soon gain a new ally. It should be remembered that the yatra began on September 7 at Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, with Chief Minister M K Stalin handing over the national flag to Rahul Gandhi in the presence of prominent Congress leaders.

Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), Haasan’s party, has maintained that it will “go it alone and do it alone” in polls, claiming a “moral upper-hand” over all other parties, from the DMK to the AIADMK, the Congress to the BJP.
