Farmers Protest

Millions of people across India on 26th November 2020 started the fight against the parliament’s decision on the “Three Farm Act”

  • The Farmers Protest (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020.
  • The Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020.
  • The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act (ECA), 2020.

These acts mainly focus on transforming the mandi system into electronic trading of agricultural products.

So many experts said that these three acts fever the farmers in getting a better price by excluding the middlemen, improving market efficiency, and giving freedom to the farmers to sell their products anywhere in India and some other experts said that there was a communication gap in between in explaining how these three farm acts help the farmers. The farmers demand to make MSP (minimum support price) a legal right. In 1960 there was a food crisis when farmers cultivated only high-profited products instead of cultivating rice and wheat. To reduce these crises government introduced MSP to increase the production of daily essential crops. Repeal pollution laws on farmers the government had imposed a fine against the violation of pollution in Haryana and Punjab.

The process of rice cultivation can be a good example to discuss. After the rice crop was bagged the remaining grass will be burned to improve the health of the field. This will increase air pollution so the government imposed fines but farmers say that it’s hard and costly to remove the grass without burning. To Reduce diesel prices for agricultural use by 50%. In agriculture, farmers use huge machinery and tractors so if the government reduces the price of diesel it helps them to produce future crops. Farmers demand to withdraw all the cases related to agriculture during this protest in all the states in India.

For more than a year struggle after Prime Minister Narendra Modi kept in mind about elections, he withdraws these farm acts.
